Jennifer Ennis
Jennifer Ennis co-founded JourneyMates in 2006, following years of prayer and discernment, guided by a God-given desire and vision to provide space for others to notice and respond to God’s presence in his Word, and within and around them. Her belief is that in time alone with Jesus the individual would grow deeper in intimacy with him and in trusting him in all of life.
A retired psychiatric nurse, Jennifer has served on the Navigator staff alongside her husband, Ralph, since 1975. She is a trustee and supervisor for JourneyMates, a certified spiritual director, and a devoted wife, mother to four married children, and grandmother to 15 grandchildren.
Jennifer and Ralph reside in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Sally Breedlove
Sally is the co-founder of JourneyMates, a contemplative small group ministry that invites people to connect intimately with the Triune God by making space in their everyday lives. She presently serves JourneyMates in various capacities. She also is the associative director of Selah-Anglican, Leadership Transformations’ certificate training program for spiritual directors.
As a spiritual director, teacher, and retreat leader, her heart delight is helping people learn to notice, trust, and follow Jesus. Sally is the author of Choosing Rest (NavPress) and one of the authors of The Shame Exchange (NavPress) and a coauthor in the Eighth Day Prayer Books. Sally and her husband Steve, who serves as a bishop in the Anglican Church in North America, live their life together in the rich context of five married children and sixteen grandchildren.
Carrie Alspaugh
Carrie has had the privilege of being part of the Journeymates community since 2007. Through Journeymates, she has experienced God’s presence in her life and, especially in her companions at Journeymates, by walking and growing with openness and honesty toward God and each other. Her family has hosted some Mornings Apart for Journeymates.
After moving five times as a child, her family settled in Raleigh in the 1970s. She went to UNC-Chapel Hill for her undergraduate, medical and public health degrees and enjoys practicing dermatology in Raleigh and Cary at Blue Ridge Dermatology Associates. Carrie is interested in faith and health and is presently learning more about that at Duke Divinity’s program on Theology and Healthcare.
Carrie is thankful for her husband of 35 years, Andy Alspaugh, and her three daughters, whom she adores. She has attended Church of the Apostles since it opened. Gardening, reading, Pilates, swimming, walking, extended family and friends bring joy to her life along with an occasional trip.
John Wilson
John was born in Arlington, VA but after graduating from NC State with a degree in Civil Engineering, he married his wife, Barbara and they have been in Raleigh ever since. John worked at Southern Industrial Constructors in Raleigh for 39 years before retiring as President and CEO.
He has held various board roles for many nonprofits in the area such as Habitat for Humanity, Step-Up Ministries, Camp Oak Hill and others. John also holds many roles and volunteers regularly at his church, Church of the Apostles. He began attending JourneyMates in 2016 and is currently a part of the men’s community.
John enjoys golfing, boating, and fishing at Atlantic Beach in his spare time, but more than anything he loves spending his time with his family, especially his 5 grandchildren!
Zane Creamer
The influence of Richard Foster and Dallas Willard in 2009 dramatically re-oriented Zane’s world as she eagerly began pursuit of the “with-God” life personally and with others.
She served on the Crossroads Fellowship pastoral staff for many years. She completed the Renovaré Institute in 2013 and holds a MA from Richmont Graduate University where she also received spiritual direction training. In retirement, she volunteers at Renovaré events and as a faculty member of Renovaré Institute.
She has been engaged with JourneyMates since 2013 as a participant, facilitator, community leader and trustee. Zane lives in a lake-front home built to be near her three grown sons, a dear daughter-in-law and two precious grandsons. She hosts small retreats and ministry gatherings. Daily delight is provided by Echo, her loving cavapoo!
Margaret Duke
Margaret was introduced to JourneyMates by her mother, Ruth, who modeled for her the contemplative life and was one of the first JourneyMates facilitators. Margaret has participated in JourneyMates since 2016 and is currently a facilitator herself. She grew up in Raleigh and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Davidson College in 2007. After graduation, she moved to Washington, DC, where she joined the Falls Church Fellows Program and then worked in the U.S. Senate. Law school eventually brought her back home to Raleigh where she received her J.D. from Campbell Law School in 2014. She has worked in human resources, employment, and insurance law. Margaret and her husband, Lawrence, attend Holy Trinity Anglican Church and share in the joy of raising their three young children.
Jim Shelton
For over 35 years, the Lord has graciously permitted Jim to walk alongside His people as a pastor, and for the past 23 of those years, the Raleigh area has been home. Here, Jim discovered the life-giving fellowship of the JourneyMates community, a ministry that embodies the call to journey together as we follow Jesus.
Whether serving as the Next Generations Pastor at Crossroads Fellowship for a decade, an Associate Pastor at Faith Harvest, or currently as the Pastor of Guest Services at Cross Assembly, Jim's heartfelt desire remains to lead individuals into a genuine and transformative relationship with our Lord Jesus.
Jim is incredibly blessed by his wife, Debbie, a dedicated teacher at North Raleigh Christian Academy for the past 15 years. Together, they are the grateful parents of three amazing adult children and are eagerly looking forward to this new and exciting season of grandparenting.
